i invited my friend to a baseball game, she text me saying. They arent allowed to go places like that while fasting? is this true? and how come?
We are bestfriends, so its not a date. And she can eat after the game, which would be around 9pm..

I figured it was cause they thought it was "bad" or something.. her words were.." we cant go places like that while fasting"

I'm muslim and every muslim I know would go out places while fasting, especially for a sports game. We see nothing wrong with continuing our everyday lives. I don't know about your friend, her family must be from an area in the mid-east that believes in different ways of Islam.

Bismillahi Rahmani Rahim - In the Name of Allah, the Beneficent, the Merciful

Hello. Muslims who are fasting in Ramadan refrain from eating, drinking, or engaging in marital relations during the daytime hours of Ramadan. They do not have to stop other normal activities, such as work or sports that they participate in. It may be your friend's habit to give up "frivolous" pursuits during Ramadan to spend more time in acts of worship, such as praying, studying the Qur'an, and attending extra Islamic lessons. This is actually a very benefical thing and helps to build discipline and Islamic knowledge, and hopefully the good habits learned during Ramadan will be carried on throughout the year.

If, however, your friend stays away from a ballgame and then spends her free time being bored or going online or watching TV, then there really is not benefit from staying away from the game. As long as there is no alcohol at the sporting event and men and women are not freely mixing, there is no harm in going to a game. And Allah knows best.

Fi Aman Allah,

it would be too draining anyway...its exhausting and comes with bad headaches....fasting isnt amusing...ive done it 20 times...its horrible..

Just because that person wasnt allowed, doesnt mean that they werent capable of going to it. They can, given choice, rebel against others and do it. :)

Going to the game itself is OK playing watching enjoying it all are OK. maybe what she meant was that she can't go on a date. otherwise, there are no restrictions on any activities at all except going a trip. A person who travels is not obligated to fast. If one is fasting, going on a trip can break her fast.
