can mechanics visibly check condition of the timing belt?

Have a subaru impreza 2007 and the timing belt is due for replacment at 125,000km, not the old 100,000km. I am up to 108,000km, nearly due for my 112,500 service. I want to know if mechanics can check conditions of timing belts to see if it needs replacing now, or will it be Ok and last to 125,000km service?
