...is exptremely loud? the landlord is the only one allowed to answer door, loud ringing can go on from 4 am to 12am. I am right beside the front door and this bell wakes me up at all hours. I am just recovering from a full hip replacement and can only sleep when pain allows me to. Never knew about this bell situation until after I moved in. (this BELL door situation is a 24 hour/day problem)

By law you have the right to "quiet enjoyment" of the property and therefor have a case against your landlord. But the problem is that if the rule about answering the door is in the original lease, and you signed that lease, you agreed to the problem. Next time you need to check the doorbell volume. At your option you could sue your landlord for breach of contract to void your lease without penalty or you could address the issue with your landlord and see if the doorbell ringer could solely be placed in his apartment at a lower level (a reasonable request). If the door requires a key to open the door from the inside, the key must remain in the lock or it is considered a safety issue. If so take pictures to take to court.
