can i use my playstation 3 to watch movies that are stored on another

computer using ethernet? and also, can i watch movies if i connect an HDD to one of the usb ports that ps3 has?
 
Yes, you can do both things, it automatically sets this up and you don't have to do anything. Just make sure that you have the latest software so you can play DVIX files.

You can stream media files off another PC via router through Media Server function. Just install latest Winamp, Windows Media Player or TVersity (TVersity is the best IMHO). Share needed files and enjoy!
