I have just bought an old classic car and it has a ten year old Kenwood KDC 5080R CD system in it.
I'd like to avoid buying a new stereo if possible but would like to listen to tunes on my iPod.
There is no line input socket for a standard jack lead on the front or back, however, there is a round unmarked socket. It's the socket for those old connectors that contained many pins in a round plug about a centimetre in diameter. This one has 12 holes, so I am presuming it's called a 12 pin socket.
I am wondering, (before I buy a new stereo, or put up with external FM transmittors etc) can I simply get a lead that has a 12pin plug on one end and a standard iPod Jack on the other, so that I can just plug in my iPod when I'm in the car? Obviously I am presuming that this is an auxiliary input socket as I can't think what else it could be.
many thanks

Here's another question on the same topic. Is it possible to open up the stereo and simply solder on the two wires with a standard jack socket on the end which I could then feed out discretely for a hard wire connection? If so, what two joints inside the stereo would I be looking for to connect up the socket?
