Can I use a hardrive from an Xbox pro on an Xbox arcade?

I bought an Xbox 360 pro on Amazon a couple months ago because it was really cheap. When I first started using it was fine. Then after about a month and a half it red ringed and got an E74 error. I sent it in to Microsoft so that they could give me a new one because the serial number said that it was still on warranty. I waited 3 weeks and Microsoft sent it back to me because they said that it had been messed with or something.Needless to say I was p*ssed for waiting 3 weeks for nothing. My guess is that the guy who sold it to me fixed it just good enough so that it worked for a while and then when it would break down a month and a half later he could say that it wasn't his problem because it would be too late to return it. I had the Xbox repaired by a guy who works on them as a part time job. That worked for about a week and a half and then it broke again. I tried the towel trick over and over again because I figured that I had nothing to loose. Using the towel trick everytime it broke down lasted the Xbox for about 3 more weeks. Then finally the towel trick didn't work anymore no matter how many times I did it. Is my Xbox completely broken and should I just get a new one? I can only afford to buy the arcade version. And if I do buy the arcade version can I use the hardrive from my Xbox Pro because it has all my files saved on it.
