can i use a garnier fructise color gaurd shampoo as the alkaline Ph balance shampoo...

...before i dye my hair? im dyeing my hair purple and it says to use a alkaline Ph balance shampoo before, and an acid base comditioner after. ive dyed my hair before and i didnt have to do that. do i still have to do this? and are there other solutions?
