Can I use a Flash Drive(Or Ipod) to transfer Linux to PS3?

I want to get Linux onto my PS3 and I've read you need to burn it to a CD. I want to know if I can just do it by putting it onto my IPOD then connecting my IPOD thru the the USB connection.
