Can I use a 360 headset in offline games?

I know the 360 headset that comes with the console is used in Xbox Live, but can I also use it for sound in offline games, instead of the TV speakers?
Just to make it clear, I mean connecting the headset to the controller, and making the sound transmit wirelessly. Not connecting it to the TV.
 
no you can't use it as a speaker only voice it's stupid i know
and you can't use it with your cell phone
