I need to know this for a school project. How many seconds can I use of a song without breaking copyright laws? Do I have to use a legal site to get it?
How do I site a source?
Also I wanted to know because I want to use it for school on a slideshow.

Hi.

If you can find the artists legal departments e-mail address and ask them for permission stipulating that it is for "non-profit", "non public domain" or educational purposes then with any luck they'll get back to you & you can say "used with permission" during the credits.

Knew a guy in college who did this with a moby song.

hm...actually all i know is napster lets you listen to songs 3 times until you can listen to only 30sec of it.

and mainly you can only listen to for 30 sec. until it's broken

so i'v heard. But most sites you have to pay unless it's bearshare or limewire

wich is illegal but nobody has done anything

Depends on the song, and the website. But it doesn't matter how many seconds you use a copyright song for, it's still copy right. Best advice is, If it's a song based on chord structure, you can just type the lyrics on mircosoft word or something, and write the chords in yourself.

if your not selling the song or saying its yours then its not really copyrighting. just cite your source for it to give proper credit and your fine
