Can i Update my IPod touch 3G to 4G?And how much would it cost?

hello.I notices that at the front of my IPod Touch 3g their is a small hole at the top.i Asked my brother and he said that apple was prepared to make a new 4g when they released the 3g one.So thats is why they put that so that you could upgrade.Could i possibly update my IPod 3 to 4?And how much would it cost>APPROXIMATE??THXXX
