Can I update iphone 3gs to 4.2 without installing 4.1?

I think the 4.1 update had multi-tasking and you could have your own backgrounds etc etc but i've been trying to find the 4.1 on itunes and it will only come up with 4.2. If I update to 4.2 will it also install the things from the 4.1 update?

So will the 4.2 update also put all the features on from the 4.1 update, my software version is currently 3.1.2
