I have a JVC MX-KC58 3-disc changer stereo. The CD changer is not working properly - the tray won't open, and the disc skip button doesn't work. I unscrewed the outer shell and took it off, exposing the inner workings of the stereo (as well as the disc changer), and can't find anything that is blocking or jamming the tray. I want to plug the stereo in and turn it on, to see if I can get a better look at what's going on when I push the tray and skip buttons.
My question is, is it safe to turn on the stereo when the outer shell is off? There is a warning label on the side of the tray that says "Visible and/or invisible Class 1M laser radiation when open, do not view with optical instruments". I assume this means do not look directly into the laser, but if I avoid that, can I turn it on for further investigation?
