Can I transfer my parents' LG Cosmos contract phone to my prepaid plan (Verizon)?

My current Samsung Intensity II is breaking and my parents have a phone upgrade that they can use. They have a LG cosmos. Theirs is the contract version but I also know that they make a no contract version of it. Can the contract version be used on verizons no contract plan? Thanks
