Can i transfer a song from a sprint to att cell through bluetooth?

I have a Samsung Instinct with sprint and my son has the iPhone with ATT.
We tried, but failed.
For some reason, the phones would ~see~ each other but would not talk to each other.
Also, the Instinct can store Mp3 files, but the iPhone uses another file type, so I don't think it would have worked anyway.
