Can I take an old qwest samsung SPH-m520 contract phone and convert it to a prepaid

phone somewhere? I got this Qwest phone a few years ago but my dad hated the service so we canceled it but now I want to use it as a prepaid phone with a some phone carrier, I don't know which one yet. I know some verizon phones can be converted to prepaid but I want to know about the qwest phones.
