Sure, if they both have the same engines, the trans's will bolt right up, but that's as far as you go. The older trans is vacuum modulated, while the newer one is controlled by the tcm (Transmission control module) by the ecm.
You are the man if you can take both pieces apart and modify. Besides, once you're in the blown trans - you could just go out and get a rebuild kit for $60.00, plus replace any broken hard parts. The average is $175.00, so if you removed the trans and brought it into a smaller shop - you'd likely get out of there around 300.00 to $500.00. You will have to shop around though, but it's much less time consuming than your alturnitive. Good luck!!
