can i switch verizon phones with another person?

my phone recently broke and I cant upgrade till June. but my grandma could upgrade her phone, and she let me use her upgrade to get a new phone for me. i ordered it but the thing is that it will activate her phone number and not mine, and we don't want that to happen, because she doesnt want a new phone and i need the phone. so i am wandering if i can go to verizon and activate my phone number onto the phone i just recently ordered for free
