Can I switch a battery in a cellphone so it can become 'unstolen'?

I lost my enV, so my friend sold me this alias 1. I tried to activate it, and it turns out my friend sold me a stolen phone, the previous owner of the phone reported the phone lost/stolen to Verizon. The girl that sold me the phone is completely ignoring me, and no where to be found.

so, my question is, if I get a NEW battery for the alias, will it be said that the phone isn't stolen anymore, or is the stolen part programed into the phone?

please answer me ASAP!
