I entered active duty from the reserves and was sent to fort sill. I enlisted as a carpentry and masonry specialist and once I was put into a unit I was told it was a training unit and our mission was to provide support to the officer training course. My work was mostly loading and unloading bulk ammunition and transporting it to designated areas. Throughout the coure of my time in this position I ended up having a herniated disc which I had removed through surgery. This surgery has left me with 8 screws, 4 titanium rods and two artificial discs in my lower spine. I feel that if I had been stationed where I could've done my actual job and not lifting ammo for two years I wouldn't be in the position I am now, 23 years old with a bad back. I was given a general discharge and was seperated 4 months after receiving the surgery. This surgery has left me battling bouts of severe depression, chronic pain, and has made it nearly impossible for me to maintain suitable employment. Please help with this issue.
