Can I study a masters in English literature with a degree in History?

Most university admissions pages for these courses say they require a degree in English 'or a related subject.' Would History count as a related subject? I did do a substantial amount of literature study during my degree, including Shakespeare and a lot of texts from the Renaissance and early modern period.
