Can I splice the cord of my Logitech USB headphone/microphone headset?

So yeah, one of my animals chewed through some of the wires on the USB cord of the headset, and the headphones work but not the mic. I kinda need the mic really bad.

Can I splice it? Do I really need to solder it? *SIGH*
...so you can't just twist everything together like with a normal electrical wire? Or can you? I don't have a crimping tool.
