Can I save games on my Sega Genesis?

Ok I haven't had this console since I was like 4, so my memory isn't exactly fresh.
I bought it off eBay and all I have right now is Aladdin.
How do I save games, if I even can?
 
A few games let you save, some give you a password, and some make you restart every time you turn it on. But they are usually cheats to get around that.
 
Only on select games are you able to save your games. Its kinda like a arcade game. You just are able to keep on playing until you turn the system off.
