Can I ride an urban bike on a road of chippings?

I've got an urban bike that I've been using for a while only on flat pavement, but lately I've had to take a road made of chippings -that of minimal red stones-; obviously the ride its slower but I don't care since it's only about 3 miles, but I'm uncertain about the effect of this kind of surface on my bike -the tires and the wheels basically-, Should I change my road?
Thank you all bike people.
