Can I request my own bloodwork or is a doctor required to?

I'm 6 weeks pregnant today and my first doctors appointment isnt for a few weeks. In my last question someone suggested gestational diabetes as a cause of my symptoms. After looking into it, I really feel like I may have it, regardless of how early in my pregnancy I am. I felt as though I might have been prediabetic before my pregnancy but my doctor did blood work a few months ago and everything was normal.

I am high risk because type 2 diabetes runs in my family, I am overweight (180lbs and 5'6"), I gained 60 pounds with my first pregnancy and my son was 9lbs1oz. For the past few days I have been incredibly thirsty. I'm not very good about drinking water but I have been taking in well over 100oz a day lately. I also eat a lot of carbs. My diet doesn't consist of much sweets but I eat a lot of fruit and pasta. I have been terribly shaky, extremely fatigued, and having bad diarrhea (gross I know, sorry!)

I want my doctor to have me tested soon after my first appointment so I know if i have it but I know they usually don't until after 20 weeks. So I was wondering, do I have to have a doctor request the testing or can I just go have it done myself? Also, what things can I do to prevent gestational diabetes or fix it if I have it?
