Can I replace the Aluminum Oil Pan with a Steel Oil Pan on my 1998 Dodge Stratus?

My aluminum pan has a crack in it and the only replacement pans I can find at a salvage yard are Stainless Steel. So my question is will the Steel work or does it HAVE to be another aluminum. The guys at the shop who looked at it to tell me where and what I was leaking said it would have to be aluminum and they could order one for some outrageous price so I was wondering, since I know I can replace it myself (well with a friend), if they were saying that just to jack the price up... and no Dodge does not suck, you suck...you know who you are.

The Aluminum is used for cooling the oil faster check with dodge and see if they used a steel pan on your car and will the 1 your looking at will fit with out issues. If the bottom has a crack from hitting some thing it might be able to be welded??

if its on a 2.4 you need to go back with the aluminum one on it ,there wasn't nothing wrong with those pans so that one must have gotten damaged somehow,i own two of those cars and neither one has givin any problems from the oil pan, you can get a good used one for 50-65 bucks anywhere, good luck.
