What makes you think that the lesser the gears have, the better the transmission!? The more the gears you have, the better you can keep the engine in its peak power range.

Anyway, yes you can bolt on an AX-15 right onto the engine, but you will need a few things...

New wiring harness
New PCM (Powertrain control module)
Flywheel
Clutch system
Pilot Bearing

Good luck

...bolt in an AX-15? I currently have an XJ with an automatic tranny, but I'm kinda over it. So I want to replace it with an AX-15 5-speed. Will it bolt in directly in place of my automatic, or will i have to make mods? Oh yeah, can anyone recommend a 4-speed to use instead? It's gonna be a offroad Jeep, so I kinda want something rugged enough that it wont break on me in a week.
Thanks!!
Or better yet, a badass 3-speed?
