Can I remove my Jeep's front driveshaft to save gas?

I have a 98 cherokee 4.0L and I'm thinking that by removing the front shaft I'll have less rotating weight and also the driven gears in the t-case won't be turned by the shaft either. The drag in the front diff and axles will still be there but the driveshaft and the driven side of the t-case won't be. Other than that it's only 8 bolts and I don't plan on doing any offroading...the snow's also not coming back for a few months.
