I'm going to pick up a used car from a private owner in another state. He happens to also work at a new car dealership and he said he said to get there before 2pm so we can transfer everything, said he was going to get plates, take care of the out state tax etc.
I want to ask him to clarify what he meant yet don't want to give him the idea I don't know and have him revoke what he was going to offer.
What I got from another post "If you buy a car (new or used) from a dealer, they'll take care of this for you. If you buy a car from a private party, you pay sales tax when you register it."
He does work through a dealership so he has connections though if he was just talking about temp plates then I could care less. He said he was going to cover the out of state taxes etc, what exactly did he most likely mean? I didn't think I could register my car to my home state from another state?

As in connections since he works for a dealership he can take care of registration etc. So he can register a car to Illinois even though he is from Indiana??
The main wording is tricky, I don't mean purchasing in another state then taking back home and registering in my home state. I know I can do that.
I mean can a dealer from another state register my newly purchased car for me to my own state.
