Can I register for My Verizon to change my phone if my mom is already registered?

I want to switch my phone. But she doesn't remember her password and we can't receive texts. Can I do this even though we both share the same minutes?
 
you can change your phone by dialing *228from the phone you wanna activate. then option 3. you'll need to enter your phone number as well as the password on the account- NOT the my verizon password- the password that's on file at the store
