Can I refuse to take a field sobriety test and insist on a breath alcohol test instead?

I suffer from vertigo, meaning my balance is not as good as other people's. The condition is documented by my doctor and the specialists that helped me find out how this happened.

It does not affect me while I am sitting, so driving is not a problem. It only affects me while standing and then it comes and goes.

The reason I am asking this is because I am pretty sure that if I were in public while having an episode I would probably appear to be drunk. I am afraid that if I ever were to be pulled over and the officer asked me to get out of the car I would fail the field sobriety test.

Any insight would be appreciated.

If your curious the vertigo is caused by damage to my vestibular nerve from intracranial hypertension. The intracranial hypertension comes from a loss of the body's ability to regulate the pressure of the fluid surrounding the brain. It can be and is being treated with medicine, but the damage to the nerve is permanent.
