Can I recover data on a flash drive that was deleted during a Windows XP reinstallation?

If files have been written to the flash drive since the deletion, you can pretty well forget them.

If not, there are progs which *may* retrieve some of them.
Prob not all, tho:-)

My brother was reinstalling windows for me and didn't realize there was a flash drive plugged in. As he was reinstalling he saw some drives he didn't recognize (it was from the Flash drive), so he deleted the files from there.

I see there is now software that can recover files from such a thing, but I'm guessing that software works only if it was installed prior to the deletion? Can anyone think of something I can try to recover the data? Thanks!
Sorry, I was missing some key details:

- the flash drive was partitioned into several different drives

- all the partitions were deleted during the startup, before windows had even finished booting

When files are deleted that way, is it floating somewhere in the computer or just totally gone? Right now the flash drive is blank and has no partitions anymore. Looks pretty grim, hope my wife won't be mad when she finds out, it was her flash drive *gulp*

If he just deleted it, a simple recovery program will do. If he reformatted the flash drive, I recommend GetDataBack for NTFS. Although you may not get all your files back, at least you will get some.
