Can I please have some help - I want to start a veggie garden in my backyard?

Alright, I want to grow
-Tomatoes
-Potatoes
-Mushrooms
-BABY OKRA (aka Bamya)
-Onions

But I have NO IDEA if I can because they're completely different veggies. How do I start, CAN I grow all these in the same garden, anything else I need to know?

Sorry, let me clear something up.
I LIVE IN AUSTRALIA, PEOPLE.
Specifically, Melbourne, in the suburbs. Because everyone keeps talking frost in Feburary and in Feburary we tend to have KILLER BUSHFIRES so...
 
It is way to late in the year to start growing veggies and things. YOu should start veggies in your house in about February and then transfer them outside when there is no chance of frost happening.

Tomatoes are super easy to grow and so are onions. Another easy first time gardening veggie to grow is beans and peas.

After Christmas get some seeds in seed packets and look on the back of the package for planting directions. THey will have a lot of helpful information for each plant and also will tell you the time to plant.

just throwing out suggestions...

preparation:
you should get a machine or some sort of tool(gardening pick axe, or shovel) and dig up the area where you want to plant...to make the land fertile for planting.

you can also buy fertilizer, or use ash, woodchips and other sediments as fertilizer and mix it in with the soil to let the plants grow better.



you can make a greenhouse for the tomatoes... and to keep insects from eating the fruit you should water them at the stem of the plants.
 
Potatoes are cool weather vegetables (at least in my region). They require a lot of water. Cabbage, lettuce and peas are also cool weather vegetables.

Tomatoes are warm weather vegetables, and they do better if you do not give them as much water.
I think you can grow onions at the same time and place.
Corn, cucumbers and beans also need warm weather.

Mushrooms are a fungus, and require a special growing medium, and I think they grow in the dark. They are not garden vegetables.

Not sure about okra.
