can i play online on the ps3 40gb?

i want to play online with other people but how do i do it on the ps3 40gb, i just have to have a wifi connection?
list steps on how to go online on the ps3 like xbox live (not online as in the browser on the ps3 40gb)

also how do i get videos and songs on my 40gb ps3, can i get movies, if so how?
 
u can play online, to set it up, u just register to psn... its free btw.
u can put songs and vids if u burn em on a cd i guess
