Can I play music through my car stereo using a USB stick?

On my car stereo there is a USB port that is meant to be used for charging your mobile/mp3 players.I was wondering if it would be possible to plug a USB stick into it loaded with MP3's to play music as I could get a lot more music on a USB than I can a CD.
