Can I paint over matt with gloss?

Just painted matt over a nice glossy paint but looks all patchey can I go buy a gloss paint and re paint it over again

Yes, I often use matt emulsion for a under coat when glossing skirting boards

You can not change the finish of a paint by just painting over the old paint. Once Gloss or Semi Gloss
is used you cannot successfully use a Matt of Flat paint over it with out sealing the area to be painted.
You could try letting the Matt dry really well, and painting a small area with Gloss. I would ask the people at the paint store.

indeed you can, remember to prepare the surface beforhand, you can use a fine abrading paper like 600 grade, also don't forget to apply the new pant with a good quality brush too, this really helps with getting a nice finish. Use long strokes too and brush across the surface to even all the pant out, this way you will not get "patchy" areas which spoil the finish.

Yes you can. If you had prepared the original gloss first with sugar soap and a scouring pad the matt would have taken properly. With painting the preparation determines the outcome.
