Well.. yes and no.
Yes - anything can be done with enough time and money. You could put a Corvette engine in a 94 protege with enough time and money.
But, from a practical standpoint. No. No, you can not put either a Miata or RX7 engine in your Protege.
Your Protege is front wheel drive (unless you're gonna convert it to rear wheel drive - which again - all the time and money in the world could make that happen - but practically speaking - not gonna happen).
Miata's and RX7's are rear drive cars so the way they hook up to the transmission, the way they are designed to fit in the engine bay is all wrong for your protege.
Plus RX7's have rotary engines and the amount of fabrication you'd have to do to fit that in a front drive car - fuh-get-a-bat-it...
If you are looking for more power - get a turbo or supercharger kit. These cost almost as much as a new engine - and are worth every penny.
