Can I modify an ethernet cable to make a crossover cable?

Just wondering if it's possible, and maybe a little how-to, please. I'm trying to connect two computers to share files and I'm more of a DIY guy than a "just go out and buy it" guy.

...Assuming all I have is the ethernet cable itself. (And tools of course)

No extra RJ45 connectors.
