Can I mate a yellow eared slider turtle with a red eared slider turtle?

[my skittles are green >.<]

They are still babies and I know that it takes about 3-7 years for them to sexually mature but if I keep them in the tank with each other to get used to one another, do you think they'd mate a bit earlier. And if how would I do this? or even if not earlier just in general how would I get them to mate?

Steven- I'm not trying to mate two different types of animals on purpose or to play God.....I'm simply askin if it is possible for them to. and IN GENERAL! how could I mate A turtle.

Yes they can cross-breed! I've never seen the results of a YBS&RES... But good luck mating them in a few years!

Yes. They are subspecies of the same species and intergrade where their ranges come together.

It takes at least 10 years for the red-eared slider to get sexually mature. But no problem for the two. You can mate them when they get older. Don't forget to keep them warm in 27-29 degree celcius, or they won't get older.
