Can I make my old PC games look brighter?

Let's face it: I don't have enough money for a new monitor. So that's out. I have Adobe Gamma, and it worked really well -- on my desktop. It doesn't work in games. I searched around the Web, and saw this application called Powerstrip that brightens up games among other things. Well, I don't know how to use it... Could Yahoo either help me brighten Fallout 1 for me, or teach me how to use this blasted Powerstrip?
