Can I keep my 6 inch banded cat shark in my 28g tank?

I own a 28g Nano-cube HQI Fish tank with an Nano Artica chiller. Ive had it for about a year now. I just recently bought a banded cat shark. The store clerk told me that it was easy to take care of and will be fine in my tank. I read that they get to 3.5 feet long, will eat my crabs, are aggressive, are for experts only, and will scratch their bellies on rocks. Do I need to return the shark to the store or will it be fine in my 28g tank. The shark is around 6 inches right now.
 
It's going to get bigger, its preferable to put him in a 55 gallon tank at least.
