Can I just use texting on a blackberry pearl without getting charged for data?

I just got a Blackberry Pearl. I use to own the Pantech Matrix. I have a family plan with unlimited text messaging on it. And i also have the pay per use data plan. I would like to knoe if I can ONLY text with the blackberry pearl without getting charged for data. I already tried it and i can text and everything. BUT I'm not sure if i'm getting charged data. I googled it and it was 50/50. Some saying that I can use it without getting charged data and some saying that i CAN'T use it without getting charged data. I don't use the internet at all. The pay per use plan is only there for multimedia messaging. I just want to knoe if i can text on the blackberry without worrying if i'm going to get a huge bill at the end of the month.

My carrier is AT&T. When i was using my matrix, the unlimited txt plan DID kover pikture and video messaging. But since I was using the blackberry i wasn't sure if it would be the same or not. So I can use the blackberry right now? and text unlimited without having to worry for a huge bill right?
 
IF you are doing REGULAR texting only (no picture mgs and no video msgs) -that will not use internet. Regular text msgs travel on a different server.

IF you have unlimited family texting, then depending on your carrier, text msgs, picture messages, and video msgs may be covered (AT&T, for example, would include all 3, but some carriers only cover regular texting and then count pic or video msgs as separate charges.)

If you use only texting and do not download anything or browse the internet, your text package will cover that, but anything else depends on your specific carrier/cell phone company/plan.
