Can I just switch to Author's POV?

I've been writing a story for a while know, and it's pretty far along. So far, the point of view's have been switching in-between the two main characters. The two main characters are part of a group of six. Now, the group gets split up entirely in a critical scene in the book. I was wondering if I could just switch to the Author's POV, even though I haven't done it at all yet so far, to make things simpler.

Like, instead of writing a paragraph in Matthew's POV, then a paragraph in Shiken's POV, then a paragraph in Gyp's POV, I could just use the author's point of view for all three paragraphs and save a lot of confusion for both me and the reader.

The scene would probably be even more confusing because suddenly there is a whole diff. POV. Why don't you just add a completely omnipotent character who can see everything?...

I agree with the first answer; it would probably confuse the reader even more.

Actually, I'd say if you absolutely can't write from a character's point of view, the best solution might be to rewrite the story from third person omniscient. That way you could still tell the characters' feelings and thoughts; you'd just tell is as the author instead of using "I."

But if you're going to use third person in one part of the book, it would be best to use it in the whole book. It might come across as confusing and inexperienced if you change it.
