Can i hook up a nextel blackberry under sprint service?

i just bought a used blackberry from a friend who ran it off nextel service. can i use this phone and hook it up with sprint? (no nextel use).

No!!! Nextel uses technology called iDEN Sprint uses technology called CDMA so no. Also nextel is shutting down in 2013 so just a warning to get ready. I wad on nextel and hated it ,, billing sucked, slow bad texting and Internet. I went with the Verizon iPhone and love it!!
