Can I hook up a car speaker to a home stereo?

I have a home stereo and I now need new cheap speakers, I was wondering if I hooked up car speakers that I have to the stereo if they would work. Thank you.
 
Car speakers are designed for very small area like a cars interior and thus not good for home audio. Also the speaker resistant for a car is 4 ohms and home is 8 ohms. The low resistant could put a strain on your stereo and burn it out. There is plenty of cheap speakers in the market you can get.
