I have done some crazy things in my time, like pulling a home built boat trailer with a boat on it 12000 miles with my Miata. Tongue weight of about 200 lbs. That is about the limits of it. Who knows what the draw bar weight was.
You have a 2000 lb car, it should never be called on to pull more then 1/2 its weight, and the total of tongue weight and load in the Miata should not exceed 500 lbs. If two thirds of the weight is on the tongue, and you weight in at 200 lbs, then you can have a tongue weight of 300 lbs, which means the trailer should Weight no more the 450 lbs.
I doubt the trailer you are talking about is that light. If you take a passenger along, then the weight of the passenger would have to be taken off that weight.
So while you could do it, I would not even hint you should.
