No problem Googling on MJ, since you had a valid purpose in researching it.
The child porn thing is another matter. Even genuine research can fall foul of the law. If all you googled was sites that wrote about or researched child porn and you can show the results of that (power point or similar) it's not a problem but even accidentally hitting a site that actually SHOWED the stuff could mean you IP address was logged and could have the Feds on your tail.
Just in case make sure you document everything you did and keep hard copies of your presentation.
As a final thought it would be a good idea to make sure your tutor is aware of the research you carried out.

hey ok so i was wondering, can someone got to jail for googling something like marijuana, child pornography, or anything else that is illegal? because i've been curious about thinks like weed so i googled it, and i was doing a computer presentation against child pornography (computer class) and i also googled that( i realized i should have phrased that search differently now but at the time i dident...) thanks!

BTW i live in America (if that changes anything)
