expenses for my 17 yr old? My daughter is a high school senior and currently applying to colleges. We live in IL and it seems there is a vague statute that covers child support/college expenses. Her biological father and I were never married but there has been a support order in place since she was 6 mos. old. I recently wrote him to try settling something outside of court and he responded by saying the support order ends on her 18th birthday with no provision for college. Can I take him back to court to modify the existing order to include an obligation for him to pay for a portion of her college expenses? Of course I will pay a portion and she will also be able to get scholarships as she is extremely intelligent.
Also, the original order is in a different IL county than the one we live in now. Do I have to transfer the case to the county we currently live in?
Thanks so much for any helpful advice!

I will list several legal links for you to check with before you try to go to court over this. As far as I know the cost of college depends on whether both parents can afford to do so and is usually agreed upon in the first court order. Since he is not agreeable to it your daughter maybe out of luck and have to go for her own student loans. You should check with the first county about transferring it to the county you live in now.
