can I get stronger from going to the gym if I also drink alcohol regularly?

I got the gym, jog and/or workout in some way for about an hour every day, but I also get drunk with friends around every second night. Is it possible to get stronger from exercise if I also drink regularly? Isn't drinking and exercising (not at the same time of course!) a lot better than someone who drinks but doesn't workout at all?
