Can I get my bike to breathe on the cheap?

I poured thousands into my last bike (07 RK Classic). Tru-duals, stage 1, PC III, dyno, chrome forks, howards horns, trim, chrome, solo saddle, etc. This time will be different. Just the essentials. Bike has to breathe (and maybe chrome forks). My intent is to reduce the killer heat on the right side and get a little better gas mileage. I'm ok with the lack of a roar from the pipes.

So, "plan A" is use a 2" bit and drill out the catalytic converter, and add a breather. Can I do this without an ECM? Will it be effective? TOTAL COST: $25 for the bit, $150 for the stage 1.

"Plan B" is to replace the pipes/slip ons, stage 1, and an ECM. Total cost: LOTS.

Thoughts?

I recently bought a 2010 RK. I didn't want to spend a fortune to let it breathe and run a little cooler. Here's what I did...

FuelMoto's Jackpot slipon's taken off my 08 UC I traded in...299.00 and 14.95 shipping.
Arlen Ness Big Sucker A/F..............................................107.95 shipped free.
FL-Xieds from Niterider.com............................................109.00
online and shipping....................................................... 7.95
Total...539.85

Runs great!!!! I don't plan to do anymore engine upgrades. Let me know how drilling the cat goes, I might try that myself.

That FL-Xied at $109 sounds too good to be true...you''re satisfied with the results? They don't seem to have a product yet for the 2011's, but I can wait. That's certainly a lot cheaper than a PC or Thundermax.
